This image is a composite from 2 sources: a stereocard from the "Civil War Treasures from the New-York Historical Society" collection, and an original glass plate negative from the Library of Congress. The right hand image of the Library of Congress negative is broken and the stereocard is cropped on the right. By combining the two sources, most of the original image is restored. As documented elsewhere, this image was probably not taken on the 'day of battle'; it does not even depict the battlefield, but rather a reserve area near McClellan's headquarters. The artillery on the left probably belongs to the Union Fifth Corps., Third Division. This is a very rare stereo image that shows both the artillery and the man on the right.
