This view shows the Sunken Road from near its southeastern corner looking along the position occupied by Anderson's Brigade.

Several disjoint Union attacks swept from left to right across this view - Kimball's, Meahger's, and Caldwell's.

At the critical phase of the action at the Sunken Road, Barlow's 64th and 61st New York regiments of Caldwell's Brigade right wheeled, their left actually crossing over to the southern side of the road, the crossing being at about the midground of this image.
